Ancestors

An invitation to apply may be extended to persons descended from:

1. Ancient Welsh Kings and Princes of Deheubarth, Gwent, Glamorgan, Gwynedd, and Powys prior to December 11, 1282, the death of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, also known as Llywelyn the Last.

2. A verified Welsh immigrant to America prior to July 4, 1776.

 

Proofs for category 1 will normally consist of modern records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates for recent generations, and will be assisted by books such as Douglas Richardson's 5 volume set "Royal Ancestry", 3 volume set "Plantagenet Ancestry", and 4 volume set "Magna Carta Ancestry", Frederick Lewis Weis' "Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700" 8th Edition (prior versions were "60 Colonists"), Carl Boyer's "Medieval Welsh Ancestors of Certain Americans" and George Edward Cocayne's "The Complete Peerage", edited by the Hon. Vicary Gibbs. 

 

Proofs for category 2 will normally consist of modern records such as birth, death, and marriage certificates, and published biographies.
